Tired of Your Surroundings? Consider These 3 Impressive Home Updates...

During these unprecedented times, most of us are growing tired of the challenges of the past couple of years, including our homes.

While a full-blown renovation may sound amazing, the reality is that it will take a long time and may also not be in your current budget. In addition, the never-ending pandemic has resulted in changes in the home industry, including extended lead times and increased demand for materials and goods.

But you don't need to blow-up everything to make a significant impact. So, while you wait for all this to be over, find some joy with these 3 things you can do now that can make a big difference to your home and hopefully give you some joy…

1. A Fresh Coat of Paint Makes a Huge Difference

Paint is a relatively inexpensive way to make major changes to your home. For example, adding a bold color to a wall or walls in a room can breathe new life into your space.

You can give your tired-looking cabinets a fresh coat of paint to make a HUGE difference in a kitchen and bathroom. It may even make you feel like you got a brand new space. I’d suggest trying a fun color like navy.

And while you may have more time on your hands or have always thought it would be fun to paint something yourself, I HIGHLY recommend hiring a professional, especially if you choose to tackle cabinetry. A lot of prep work and preparation goes into a job like this.

2. Lighten Up Any Room with New Lighting & Hardware

Replacing your light fixtures and hardware are two other relatively easy ways to make a massive impact in a space. I always think of these items as jewelry for a room. They can really elevate a room just like a beautiful pair of earrings can elevate an outfit.

Plus, it is a great way to infuse your style into your home, especially if you live in an older home or one that you didn't get to select those items when you first moved in.

3. Elevate the Space with New Furniture & Window Treatments

If painting or changing out lighting and hardware seem too much for you, another easy way to make a difference to any room is to update your window treatments. Window treatments of any kind make a huge difference in a room. Not only do they give you privacy, but they also add warmth and make a room feel finished and cozier.

You can also replace or update existing furniture or invest in a new rug. New furniture is always fun but can be challenging right now due to supply chain issues. An alternative could be to recover or reupholster an existing piece in a beautiful new fabric.

Consignment stores happen to be one of my favorite places to visit. Finding someone else's cast-off and giving it a new coat of paint, new fabric, or just a new location makes me so happy. Plus, it is excellent for the environment because the piece stays out of the landfills.

If you need to get rid of something to make room for something new, consider consigning your piece to make a little money to get yourself something new or donate it to an organization that helps those in need. It is a win-win for all.

New floor coverings like area rugs can take a room from boring to fabulous. If you are considering investing in a new rug, always consider where it will be (is it high-traffic or low-traffic) and what it is made out of. You don't want to pull the trigger on a fantastic rug to only find out that it cannot withstand the wear and tear of the location you have selected for it.

Talking to a professional can make a big difference. While these suggestions are pretty simple and relatively easy ways to update your home, it is always safer to discuss them with a professional BEFORE  you make any changes.

Scheduling an in-home or virtual consultation with an interior designer who will consider color selection, scale, room layout, and proper furniture and rug placement is worth every penny. It will ultimately save you money and help your home feel fresh and pulled together.
